FCOTList

Join our email group called FCOTList.

You can take part in our email group called “FCOTList”. Mostly, this email group will be used to announce Sunday church, with the speaker’s name, to announce Thursday classes (sometimes the evening class is closed), to announce other events, and we don’t know what else. This email group is evolving.

You can also print this page in your browser for future reference. Or just make a bookmark to this page.

What is an email group?

An “email group” makes it easier to send an email message to many people by using only a single group email address. Like a magazine that you subscribe to, you must subscribe to an email group or someone must subscribe you. All the messages you get from the group will go to your email Inbox. When you don’t want to receive the emails from the email group you can also unsubscribe any time you want.

Instructions were given to every person on the list in their “Welcome message”. Please save these instructions as you will need them later. You can bookmark this page which has all the instructions you need for this particular email group called FCOTList.

If you want to send an email to everyone subscribed to the “email group”, send the email to the special email group address. In this case the special email address is “FCOTList@spiritualistFirstChurchOfTruth.org”. Everyone in the group will get the email. To check that you did it right, wait 5 minutes and then go to the FCOTList archives and you should see your message there.

Note

  1. Your email address is hidden from the other people in the group and from spammers.
  2. Since your email his hidden from the group, please sign your name in your message, or we will have no idea who you are, or who we are replying to.
  3. If you have to send your email address to the group, change your email address in the body of the email so it looks like this general format: myname(at)myemail.com. You are changing the “@” sign into something else that will not work with email spammers.

How to subscribe and get the email messages

To subscribe. Pick one of these 3 methods.

  1. Method 1: If you are not already subscribed to this particular list, send an email to: FCOTList-join@spiritualistFirstChurchOfTruth.org (click the link to create an email, or copy and paste the email address into your email program). You do not need anything special in the subject or body of your message. But it’s a good idea to put “subscribe” in the subject just in case you get an error back, it helps remind you what you intended to do.
  2. Method 2: Get your valid email address to Pastor Bill or Helen or the webmaster. The webmaster will subscribe you.
  3. Method 3: You can also subscribe by going to this link and filling in the email field. Your name and password are optional. You will need to set a password at this step if you want to use this page to set other options. http://spiritualistfirstchurchoftruth.org/mailman/listinfo/fcotlist_spiritualistfirstchurchoftruth.org. Using a password on this page is OPTIONAL, you can leave the password blank. But if you do use one, remember to write it down. Also on this page it asks you about a daily digest. That is incorrect, it’s actually a weekly digest.
    1. Enter your email address in the field called “Your email address”.
    2. Enter your name if you want in the “Your name” field, but your name is optional. Your email address is hidden from the people on the email group, so your name will be too. Your name is only available to the email group administrator.
    3. The password is optional. Most people don’t need to use it.
    4. Click the “Subscribe” button.

You should get a confirmation message in your email Inbox within 5 minutes or so. You will have to follow the instructions in that email to confirm you really want to subscribe to this email group. If you don’t see the confirmation message, check your Junk or Spam email folders.

If you still don’t see the confirmation email, contact the webmaster on our Contact Us page in the menu at the top of each page here. Make sure to put a subject of “Tried to subscribe to FCOTList”. Then in the body of the message explain what you did, and what happened.

After you confirm your subscription, you will get a Welcome message, and you are done! Keep this welcome message as it has instructions you will need later. We do not have messages every day, so please be patient. All messages will have in the subject “[FCOTList]” so you know it’s from the email group.

How to send a message to everyone in the email group

To post a message to the whole group, send an email to this single email address: FCOTList@spiritualistFirstChurchOfTruth.org. Please sign your name because we have no idea who you are or who we are talking to. Everyone’s email address is hidden. You may want to make an entry in your email address book for this long email address. You might call it “FCOTList”.

To reply to a message from FCOTList, in your email, click the Reply button in your email program and your reply will go to everyone on the list.

To leave the group, send an email to: FCOTList-leave@spiritualistFirstChurchOfTruth.org. That’s all you have to do. You will get a confirmation email to make sure you want to leave. Follow the instructions in the email to leave. If you want to rejoin/subscribe again the instructions are above.

To find out more commands and options for the list send email to: FCOTList-request@spiritualistFirstChurchOfTruth.org

To contact the list admin (the person in charge) directly, send email to: FCOTList-owner@spiritualistFirstChurchOfTruth.org.

The weekly digests

Getting a weekly digest can unclutter your email, but you will only get a single email once a week, and you may be a few days late to the conversation. By default, people will not get a weekly digest, they have to set it up.

By default you will get every message in your email each time one is sent. To get a weekly digest contact FCOTList-owner@spiritualistFirstChurchOfTruth.org and ask them to change your subscription to a digest.

Or you can send the commands yourself like this:

  1. Go to your email program.
  2. Create a new email to FCOTList-request@spiritualistFirstChurchOfTruth.org.
  3. In the body of the email message put “set digest plain” on one line by itself.
  4. Send the email.
  5. Within minutes, you should get a confirmation email that you are now in digest mode. You will now get messages once week all in one larger email.
  6. To go back to getting emails from this list as soon as they are sent, create an email to FCOTList-request@spiritualistFirstChurchOfTruth.org, and send this command in the body of your email: “set digest off”.

Get help with email group commands

You can do more stuff with the list and its options. To get help on list settings, send email to FCOTList-request@spiritualistFirstChurchOfTruth.org and in the body of your email message put “set help” or another command, one command per line. On the last line put the word “end”. You will get an email back with a command summary.

Use the command “set show” to show all your current options for this list. We can have multiple lists so you will only get options for the list named FCOTList.

Filter these emails into a special folder for later reading

You can also put all messages from FCOTList into a new email folder so your Inbox is less cluttered. Then read the FCOTList folder later.

The instructions for making a new email folder, and making a filter are different for all email clients so I can only provide a general list of steps to follow here.

  1. Open your email program.
  2. Make a new email folder, call it “FCOTStuff”.
  3. Make a new email filter.
  4. Set the filter so if the subject of the email contains “[FCOTList]”, then save it in the new email folder you just made called “FCOTStuff”. Notice I called the email folder “FCOTStuff” so as to make things less confusing.
  5. Your email filter should run on the inbox every time email is checked. This is the default for most email programs.
  6. Save the email filter.
  7. That’s it! All new messages from FCOTList should go to the email folder FCOTStuff. From now on check that folder for new messages from us.
